Crane Operator Course - Stage 1, 2, 3
ABS-class three-stage Offshore Crane Operator course combines API RP 2D / BS 7121 Pt 11 theory with 40-ton boom-crane practice. Trainees master inspection checks, load charts, swing control and safety cut-outs, then log tasks in an IMCA operator’s logbook to prove workplace competence.
Purpose
The programme develops competent crane drivers who can plan, execute and shut down offshore lifting operations safely— from basket transfers on jack-ups to heavy lifts on construction vessels. Through step-progressive theory, simulator work and live-crane drills, candidates learn:
-
Roles, legislation and safe-system-of-work documents.
-
Crane mechanics, stability limits and rated-capacity indicators.
-
Banksman hand signals, radio protocols and dynamic-loading effects.
-
Advanced swing-control, multi-function coordination and emergency procedures.
Successful completion of Stages 1 & 2 plus a Stage 3 workplace assessment leads to an internationally accepted IMCA Offshore Crane Operator Logbook endorsement.
-
Target Audience
Deck officers, riggers, roustabouts, mechanics and marine crew seeking initial certification or up-skilling to Stage 2/3 offshore crane operator standard.
