  • Purpose

  • Prerequisite

    • Sea-service route – Four years on MOUs with at least one year in a supervisory role such as driller, toolpusher, barge or ballast control operator, mechanical supervisor, electrician or crane operator.

    • Academic route – Bachelor of Science from a recognised technology school plus one year in any of the supervisory positions above.

    Note: Completion of the MOU Stability (BCO) course and IWCF Well Control Level 2 is also required before taking up an OIM post.

    • Stability & Construction – MOU trim, damage stability, watertight integrity, structural inspections, mooring effects, leg-reaction stresses.

    • Station-Keeping & DP – Seabed assessment, anchor patterns, mooring loads, DP capabilities/limits, failure scenarios.

    • Transit Operations – COLREGs, MOU navigation systems, towing and recovery procedures.

    • Emergency Procedures & Safety Equipment – Fire, life-saving, heavy-weather prep, evacuation, crisis management.

    • Personnel Transfers – Basket, helicopter and vessel transfer safety.

    • Handling & Stowage of Supplies – Lifting gear, dangerous-goods control, deck and heli-deck operations.

    • Pollution Prevention & Control – Systems, equipment and response plans.

    • Meteorology – Weather systems, forecasting sources, environmental operating limits.

    • Safe Working Practices – Occupational health, permits to work, enclosed-space entry, safety-equipment checks.

    • Regulatory & Certification Framework – International/national rules affecting MOU operations and documentation.

    • Industrial Operations Interface – Drilling, construction, production, accommodation support, pipe-laying, diving, firefighting and their marine-safety implications.
