Pumpman Course
Hands-on Pumpman Course gives engine-room ratings, fitters and offshore mechanics the know-how to operate, maintain and repair cargo pumps, piping and inert-gas systems, remove sludge, prevent failures and keep tanker or rig liquid-transfer operations running safely and smoothly.
Purpose
The course blends theory with workshop practice so participants can:
-
Operate centrifugal, screw, positive-displacement and deep-well pumps used on oil rigs, FPSOs and VLCCs.
-
Maintain & repair pipelines, valves, inert-gas generators and pump-room machinery before leaks or sludge build-up interrupt cargo flow.
-
Safeguard people, plant and environment by recognising petroleum-vapour hazards, applying tank-entry permits, testing PV valves and executing purging, COW, ballasting and deballasting procedures in line with international best practice.
Graduates become reliable pump-room specialists who keep liquid-cargo systems efficient, compliant and accident-free.
-
Prerequisites
-
Basic mechanical or engine-room experience – e.g., engine-room rating, fitter or offshore mechanic.
-
Valid offshore/shipboard safety and fire-fighting certificates (STCW basic or equivalent).
-
Medical fitness for confined-space and pump-room work.
